Guest Blog Post from Alison Campbell from Unburnt "Burnout Epidemic"

Burnout continues to be a growing issue in our modern world, especially in the years since the

pandemic. According to a Mercer study earlier this year, 84% of employees were at risk for burnout in

the US in 2024. It has become impossible to unplug. We’re overwhelmed, overloaded and often we

don’t have time to make positive changes or take the rest we deserve.

We’re living in hustle culture, with what feels like a universal ‘growth at all costs’ mindset and always-on

technology that means more communication and expectations for faster results.

No wonder it’s so difficult to interrupt the burnout cycle.

This was my story, too.

For so many years, I was overcaffeinated and underwater. Every day.

Most days, I’d get a venti dark roast with a shot of espresso, some days two shots, to get going and kick

it into high gear. I knew it was excessive, and yet I felt like I needed it to get through the day.

On days with big meetings or just for a little extra love, I’d send selfies to my cheer crew – big

presentation at 10am – send good vibes!

We all need to be surrounded by support. And knowing your girlfriends, sisters and mom have your

back? Truly a boost like no other.

The problem?

I was so burnt I needed the outside “we got you” and all the Starbucks to survive the day.

And often, I’d hear from those closest to me that I couldn’t keep going at this pace. I’d often get texts

back – how are you doing, are you OK?

In October 2023 I wasn’t OK. I finally hit the wall. It would take another 5 months and a surgery to be

able to say enough is enough.

I made the difficult decision to step back from my career. To recover. To truly process a lifetime of

grinding and to figure out how to live more holistically.

My journey has led me to get certified as a Health and Wellness coach and to start a community and

company focused on burnout prevention and recovery solutions.

Now, as the founder of unBurnt™, I’m on a mission to change to the way the world perceives burnout

and provide you with the tools for real change.
